Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar has said that lack of quality work and not being able to complete work on time is the major problem in the construction sector. He said that for this, both the builders and the government agencies should increase their capacity.

"I have been saying quality work, timely work since the past, I am saying the same now," said the minister while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 15th session of Kanchanpur Construction Professionals Association in Mahendranagar on Friday. He said that when he was the physical infrastructure minister a decade ago, the problem is still the same.

The cost of some projects has increased due to the construction work not being completed on time, the minister said. According to him, the cost price of some plans has increased up to 2/300 percent.

The minister said that the national construction capacity should be enhanced for the improvement of infrastructure construction. He said that all government agencies involved in the development and construction sector and businessmen working in the non-governmental sector should enhance their capacity.

The formation of the current government of the Congress and UML coalition is for legal and policy reforms, so the government is also ready to solve the legal problems seen in the construction sector, he said. He informed that the government is also discussing the amendment of the Procurement Act.

The minister said that the government is also ready to make payments to the builders on time. "In the last financial year alone, we have paid 35 billion which has been withheld for years," he said, "the remaining amount will be paid this year."
