Demand a written reply from Maoist leader Shrestha in the contempt of court case

What you should know

The Supreme Court has demanded a written reply from Narayankaji Shrestha, senior vice president of CPN-Maoist Center in the contempt of court case. The bench of Supreme Court Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Shrikant Paudel demanded a written answer from Shrestha.

Ayush Dahal, a law student, filed a contempt case against Shrestha. Shrestha, who is also a former minister, filed a petition alleging contempt of court for his post on Facebook on August 6.

It was claimed in the petition that Shrestha had posted material through social media that spread disfavor towards the court saying that justice would not be obtained from the court without bribes and bribes.

The Supreme Court has asked to answer about the said post. Advocate Arjun Bahadur Khadka, while debating the case, claimed that Maoist leader Shrestha's statement that 'Justice is bought and sold in courts like Khasibo which are kept for buying and selling on the Tukucha bank at a distance of 200 meters from the Supreme Court' is prima facie contempt of the court. Advocate Khadka demanded action, arguing that 'law professionals who appear in the courtroom without disrespecting the Supreme Court are only acting and it will mean that the winner and loser are already decided in the field of justice, just like in a wrestling match.

Maoist leader Shrestha wrote that 'now the situation of the court is such that any Nepali who approaches the court for justice cannot be expected to get justice if he cannot tell, tell or bribe the judge through his contact access.

Shrestha wrote on Facebook, 'It is very painful to feel that the court has become a tool for revenge, revenge and political self-fulfillment of the political leadership in the government. Going further, it has become a matter of extreme shame and concern for judges to show a transactional tendency to decide cases according to their wishes with the political leadership of the government for their personal or official interests. In this way, what will the people do who are deprived of justice and put in jail, victims of a situation where everything ends justly? How to get justice? Shouldn't those in the responsible position of justice think?' He also spread mistrust, disbelief and distaste towards the activities of the court.

Shrestha, who is also the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs, has been requested to be punished to the maximum extent according to Section 17(4) of the Administration of Justice Act, 2073. If found guilty, Shrestha can be imprisoned for up to one year.
