As of Monday evening, 37 diarrhea and cholera patients have been admitted to the hospital and are being treated. Out of them 6 are admitted in ICU and 1 in PICU. The rest are in the general ward. 29 new patients of diarrhea and cholera have come to the hospital in the last 24 hours. So far, RDT test of 141 patients with diarrhea in the hospital has confirmed cholera infection in 59 people.
Children and women are more infected
Dr. Singh said that cholera infection has been seen more in children and women since the last few days in a period of one and a half weeks. "Initially, more infections were seen in adult men," he said, "but after four or five days, more infections have been seen in children and women." Singh said.
Cholera confirmation rate is decreasing
The rate of cholera infection confirmation in patients coming to the hospital is decreasing for the past five days. Singh said. "From August 6 to 9, cholera infection was confirmed in 50 percent of the total patients who came to the hospital," he said, "since August 10, this rate has dropped to 10 percent."
According to the new data released by the Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality on Monday at 5 pm, the number of cholera infected in the Birgunj Metropolitan area alone has reached 175. Among those who came in contact with Pokharia Hospital, the number of cholera infected has reached 15. The number of cholera infected in the district has now reached 190 in Birganj and Pokharia.
876 diarrhea and cholera patients have come in contact with various hospitals in Birganj. 44 of them are new patients. Out of 876, 786 have returned home after treatment. Out of 175 cholera infected in Birgunj, 162 have returned home after treatment. 13 infected are still being treated in different hospitals. Currently, 90 diarrhea patients are being treated in different hospitals in Birganj.
Although the rate of treatment and return home is the same as the rate of admission of new patients, it is becoming a matter of concern if the trend of new patients does not stop. To prevent the spread of the disaster, Birganj Metropolitan Municipality has closed all the educational institutes here for a week.
