Dr. KC started the 23rd Satyagraha at Geeta in Kailali

What you should know

Medical education reformer Dr. Gobind KC has started the 23rd Satyagraha at the Martyr Dashrath Chandra Health Sciences University Institute in Geta, Kailali from Sunday.

KC, who has been constantly agitating for the improvement of medical education and health sector, has demanded that the increase in seats in private medical colleges should be withdrawn this time.

Under the direction of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the Medical Commission decided to increase seats in private medical colleges for various subjects including MBBS. Even the experts have been criticizing the decision. They have been saying that such a decision will affect the quality of medical education. The latest decision of the medical college, which has been teaching MBBS up to 100 seats, has increased the number of seats to admit students in 130 quota. dr. KC issued a statement from Kailali and said that satyagraha has been started for 3 days. Due to Prime Minister Oli's illegitimate and direct intervention contrary to the spirit of the Medical Education Act, recently the Medical Education Commission irresponsibly increased the seats of private medical colleges  has decided . Along with that, the very existence of the Medical Education Act has been undermined by the wrong decisions and judgments of the commission, government and courts for some time. Increasing the number of student admission seats will fill the pockets of leaders and mafia but the quality of education will decrease . A decline in the quality of a sensitive sector like medical education means a decline in the quality of public health services. In other words, it means playing with the health of the common Nepalese," the statement said.

Commission's Executive Vice President Anjani Kumar Jha's irresponsibility has also led to the decision to increase the seat. Casey's claim is . He has also demanded to open government medical colleges and hospitals in Ilam, Udaipur and Dadeldhura and to run full hospital services and educational programs in Geta of Kailali.

According to the agreement with the government in the past, the Integrated Health Sciences Academy Act and University Officer Appointment Higher Education Act, non-profit medical education, and health institutions should be reviewed.   Instead of addressing it, the coalition government of Oli and Sher Bahadur Deuba is determined to feed private medical colleges at any cost.

Although there have been repeated agreements with various governments to open and build government medical colleges and hospitals in Ilam, Udaipur and Dadeldhura, even after five years have passed since the completion of the construction, educational programs and hospital services in Geta of Kailali are not a priority of any Prime Minister. According to the statement by Casey .
