Speaker of Rashtriya Sabha Narayan Prasad Dahal has said that it is necessary to implement morality policy in politics.

Addressing the above discussion on the study report prepared on the National Ethics Policy, 2082 held by the Development, Economic, Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the National Assembly on Wednesday, he emphasized that in the current situation where ethics cannot be applied in the political field, the attention of all concerned should be directed towards maintaining an ethics policy.

'Political parties are involved in law-making, the country's budget-making process, economic, social and infrastructural development. Morality can be applied in these areas only if politics is virtuous,' Dahal said, 'If a householder drinks and smokes, can he preach to others? In the same way, can we try to make others apply moral policy, but we ourselves stay outside the policy?'

Chairman Dahal also suggested that we should proceed with a thorough discussion with the government on ethics policy. He said that a national morality policy is also needed for the implementation of the fundamental rights of the people in the constitution. Kamaladevi Pant, chairperson of the

committee, clarified that the policy has been formulated with a long-term view of promoting good governance while maintaining morality in all areas of society. He believes that the policies included in the report can create honest and positive thinking citizens and a virtuous society.

Chairman of National Assembly, Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee, Maya Prasad Sharma emphasized on effective implementation of the proposed policy after discussion in the House.

National Assembly Secretary Dr. Surendra Aryal expressed the view that good governance can be maintained by relying on the framework of moral policy and that there should be further discussions with the government while focusing on the issues related to this policy.
