The Federation of Nepalese Journalists has announced a protest demanding the immediate opening of registration and renewal of online media. The registration and renewal of online media has been stopped since the 20th of July last after the government amended the Act on Printing Houses and Publications. The federation says that the government has violated the constitutional rights of citizens by stopping the registration of media.

Due to non-renewal of online media, journalists have not even been able to renew press representative certificates. Due to the lack of renewal, there has been discomfort in the advertising business in the run-up to the festival.  In the

meeting, Federation President Nirmala Sharma demanded that the registration and renewal of online media should start immediately. Vice President Umid Prasad Bagchand said that the government is trying to control citizens' right to press and freedom of expression by making one law after another.

General Secretary Ram Prasad Dahal said that the government has acted unconstitutionally by stopping the registration and renewal of online media. He says that the constitutional rights of the citizens have been blocked by such actions of the government. He said that if the government does not immediately resume the work of registration and renewal, the federation will intensify the protest.
