Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba held a courtesy meeting with the Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Vo Thi An Suan, here today.
Minister Dr. Rana met Vice President Bho who came to Kathmandu today for a three-day official visit to Nepal at the friendly invitation of Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav .
During the meeting, various dimensions of Nepal-Vietnam relations as well as bilateral interests and matters of mutual interest were discussed. While congratulating Vietnam for its recent rapid economic development, Minister Dr. Rana held the view that other countries can learn from this economic development.
Minister Dr. Ran emphasized that the cultural relations between the two countries should be highlighted and that Buddhism is a strong link to expand the relations between the two countries and the people. She mentioned that many Vietnamese citizens visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautama Buddha, and said that both countries can work together in the field of cultural tourism promotion. .
Informing that the number of tourists from Nepal and Vietnam has increased significantly in recent years, Minister Dr. Rana expressed the opinion that both countries should use this opportunity to cooperate in the promotion of the tourism sector.
Minister Dr. Rana also requested from Vietnam to create a flying environment at Gautam Budh International Airport and Pokhara Airport located in Bhairahawa, Nepal. In the same way, she asked Vietnam for the necessary support in the future as Nepal is preparing to be upgraded from a least developed country after 2026. In the
meeting, Minister Dr. Rana has nominated Nepal as a member of the Human Rights Council for 2027 to 2029 and as a member of the Economic and Social Council for 2029 to 2031. Vice President Bho expressed her commitment to support Nepal.
Nepal and Vietnam have been helping and supporting each other at the bilateral and multilateral levels, and it was discussed in the meeting that they should continue to cooperate in global agendas such as South-South cooperation and climate change in the future.
As member countries of G77, Non-Alignment Movement (NAM), Nepal and Vietnam are working together to protect the interests of developing countries, Vice President Bho and Foreign Minister Dr Rana said on the occasion.
