Indian Foreign Secretary Bikram Misri, who is on a two-day visit to Nepal, has met with top leaders. Misri has held separate meetings with the President, Prime Minister, Congress Speaker, and leaders of major opposition parties.
He came to Kathmandu on Sunday to do homework on the agenda of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's visit to India after a month.
In a meeting held at the Prime Minister's office, Misri has formally invited Prime Minister Oli to visit India. Prime Minister Oli is preparing to go to India on August 31 for a two-day visit. After 13 months of becoming the Prime Minister, he is going to visit India. There are preparations for discussion on the agenda of trade, connectivity and regional development between the two countries as well as solving the border problem between the two countries.
Modi and Oli are preparing for bilateral talks outside Delhi this time during their visit to India. According to sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, preparations are underway for a formal meeting between the two Prime Ministers in Bodh Gaya. The city of Bodh Gaya in the state of Bihar is famous as a holy pilgrimage site for the followers of Buddhism. Bodhgaya is known as the place where Buddha attained enlightenment.
Secretary Misri also met with Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agenda and interests of Prime Minister Oli's upcoming visit were discussed during the meeting. Rana said, "In addition to the recent activities to increase connectivity between the two countries, the increase in bilateral meetings, high-level visits and diplomatic relations in various fields and levels is a matter of happiness. "In addition to railways and land routes, it is good to increase connectivity by expanding air routes as well.
Rana also asked to create an atmosphere of support for additional flights and additional air routes from Indian cities at Gautam Budh International Airport and Pokhara International Airport located in Rupandehi. During Prime Minister Oli's visit, Foreign Minister Rana proposed to advance the Pancheshwar multi-purpose project. He said that it would be appropriate to implement the benefits of the Pancheshwar multi-purpose project in both directions.
In May 2080, during the then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's visit to India, it was agreed to complete the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Pancheswar within three months. But so far Nepal and India have not been able to agree on the DPR, due to which the Pancheswar multi-purpose project has been stalled for 29 years. The Mahakali Treaty was signed between the then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and the then Prime Minister of India PV Narasimha Rao on 29th January 2052 regarding Sarada Barrage, Tanakpur Barrage and Pancheswar on the Mahakali River.
Minister Rana has requested for facilitation as there is a problem in the export of plywood, steel and other products to India. These agendas are prepared to be discussed during Prime Minister Oli's visit to India. Similarly, the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Rai, and the Indian Foreign Secretary, Misri, discussed issues such as transportation, trade, and development cooperation.
Similarly, Secretary Misri had a courtesy meeting with President Ramchandra Paudel at Rashtrapati Bhavan Sheetal Niwas. During the meeting, President Paudel said that Nepal has benefited from the progress made by neighboring India and wants to benefit even more, according to Kiran Pokharel, President's Press Adviser. Secretary Misri said that according to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policy of prioritizing relations with neighboring countries, Nepal is at the top of priority. Misri also met with Congress Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. He will return to Delhi on Monday.
