The Nepal Police will now conduct an investigation into the fact that the documents of passengers who have reached Tribhuvan International Airport on visit visas to go to different countries are being returned (offloaded) without investigation without being given permission to depart.
The Immigration Department and the Airport Immigration Office will entrust the police from the airport to investigate such passengers.
In the same gang's plan, the police have been instructed to investigate the cancellation of the return ticket from the double air ticket after passing the immigration security check. Director General of Immigration Department Ramchandra Tiwari held a press conference on Sunday and clarified that further efforts to improve visit visas have been started to make the visit visa systematic, transparent and law-abiding.
Just a few days ago, the department called representatives of the airport police, Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau, Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Narcotics Control Bureau and other private organizations active in the airport to discuss the matter of making immigration safe, orderly and lawful.
As the gang is running an organized extortion business under the cover of visit visa, the department has also sought the support of ministries and agencies related to travel, security, tourism and foreign studies and employment to control it. In order to stop extortion and take action against the culprits in collusion with the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, the department has sent a letter to various ministries and the National Bank on Friday to regularly monitor and regulate organizations related to foreign employment and studies, banks and financial institutions and related government institutions. Tiwari, director general of the
department, said that to make the foreign travel organized and transparent through the visit visa, the relevant agencies have to fulfill their responsibilities in the same way, so a letter has been sent for the necessary support. "In order to make the immigration administration agile, efficient and orderly, we have made some of the previous provisions up-to-date and some of them have also been tightened keeping in mind the security sensitivity," he said.
In the past, since the provision of visit visa was made strict, the department has also adopted a policy of making it systematic and transparent. According to Director General Tiwari, those going for a visit visa must submit a valid 6-month passport, a visa to the destination country (in the case of countries with non-arrival facilities), a two-way air ticket, hotel booking documents in the destination country or a document submitted by relatives or friends that they will keep, a 'sponsor letter' if they are invited by someone, and if not, proof of at least 500 US dollars worth of foreign currency is sufficient.
Earlier, some passengers were returned from the airport after checking their 'character' by the immigration staff. Director General Tiwari said that now there will be no discrimination or questioning at the airport based on the economic or other status of the person. In the same way, if the criteria for residence management by relatives in the destination country has been included that it should be within 'three generations', now it has been removed and anyone who knows them can manage the residence during the visit and the details of its generations have been arranged.
Visit visa must have a return ticket. However, it has also been found that airlines and travel agencies collusively cancel the tickets for the coming date after the person going to the 'setting' is checked by the immigration after departure. Director General Tiwari said that to stop the tendency of airlines to send people to 'settings', they should be given boarding passes and sent for immigration security checks 1 hour before and if this is not done, such passengers will be returned without security checks.
Similarly, Narahari Ghimire, the head of the Immigration Office of the University Airport, said that some air service companies 'hold' by booking more seats than required and passengers return without getting a seat when they get their boarding pass, so they have been warned not to do this. He informed that the police has been assigned to investigate such irregularities.
The department has sent a letter to Rashtra Bank to regulate stamps affixed by banks/financial institutions and similar centers on traveller's passports. The department increased its vigilance after it was found that some passengers did not have foreign currency as mentioned in the stamp during the airport immigration check before leaving the destination country on a visit visa.
