A 24-year-old woman died in Kathmandu due to dengue infection. Epidemiology and Disease Control Division said that he died on Wednesday while being treated at Shukraraj Tropical and Communicable Disease Hospital, Tekuma.

'It has been confirmed that one woman has died of dengue,' said the director of the department. Chandra Bhal Jha said, 'The woman was not found to be suffering from any other chronic disease.'

Since January this year, 2,984 dengue infections have been confirmed in 74 districts. In the last one week alone, 168 new infections have been seen. According to doctors, about 90 percent of the infected do not show any symptoms, so the actual number may be higher.

In Nepal, dengue appears throughout the year. In 2024, 15 people died and 41 thousand 865 people were infected. In 2023, 88 people died and 54 more than thousand were infected .

The Ministry of Health has started a one-month 'Dengue Control Campaign' from June 32. The ministry has estimated that up to 60,000 people may be infected this year.

Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes that transmit dengue live in clean water and bite during the day. Open water tanks, old tires, plastic glasses and bottles are the main places where dengue larvae develop.

The symptoms of dengue include high fever, muscle pain, and pain behind the eyes. If such symptoms appear, doctors have suggested to consult a doctor immediately. Although there is no definite cure for dengue, the death rate is very low if treated in time.

Dengue was first seen in Nepal in 2004 in a foreign citizen in Chitwan. Since then, this disease has been spreading in many districts.
