Vote of confidence in Bagmati: Leaders' request accepted by Lama at the last minute

Lama said, ”The Chief Minister only says that he will do whatever the leaders tell him from above.” Therefore, this time we have not spoken with the Chief Minister but with the leaders. We went to vote only after all the leaders requested. We believe that the demand will be fulfilled as the leaders said.

Vote of confidence in Bagmati: Leaders' request accepted by Lama at the last minute

What you should know

Thirteen MPs from the Bahadur Singh Lama group remained in Kathmandu till 2 o'clock, taking the stance of not giving a vote of confidence until Bagmati Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniyan appoints three people from his side as ministers.

When the government collapsed due to the absence of Lama group MPs, dozens of leaders including Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Leader Shekhar Koirala, Deputy Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka called Lama.

13 MPs of the Lama group left for Hetauda after 2 o'clock only after Chairman Deuba assured that three people would be made ministers. One of the 14 MPs in his group, Ramakrishna Chitrakar, went abroad.

The provincial assembly meeting was called for 4 pm to take the vote of confidence. After the leaders of the Lama group entered the parliament at around 4:30, the leaders looked confident. The meeting started only after they entered the parliament. Banyan looked tense until the MPs of the Lama group entered the parliament.

Lama, who is also a former Chief Minister, said that only after the request of all the leaders and the request of Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba to follow the pre-understanding of making ministers, they traveled from Kathmandu to vote of confidence. Their stance was that they would rather resign but not give a vote of confidence until the demand was met. Lama and another MP, Kundan Kafle, had already cast their votes before the Speaker's instructions, while other MPs went for voting only after the Speaker's instructions.

When asked if your demands will be fulfilled, Lama said, 'The Chief Minister only says that he will do what the leaders say from above. Therefore, this time we have not spoken with the Chief Minister but with the leaders. We went to vote only after all the leaders requested. We believe that the demand will be fulfilled as the leaders have said. According to

Lama, in the discussion held by party chairman Deuba in Rohwar, it was agreed that the three ministers appointed by him but who did not take oath will continue.

After a motion of no confidence was filed against him in the parliamentary party, Lama, as the Chief Minister, appointed Provincial Assembly members Govind Lamsal as Ministers for Internal Affairs and Law, Maya Shrestha and Geeta Gurung as Ministers to be assigned later. However, their oath was stopped when the provincial chief stayed in the capital. Lama is now maintaining the stance that all the three MPs should be appointed as ministers.

There are 14 ministries in Bagmati. Congress got 8 ministries including Chief Minister and UML got 6 ministries. UML has already sent 6 ministers to the government while Congress has sent only two ministers to the government. The two Ministers from the Congress are Water, Energy and Irrigation Minister Krishna Kumar Tamang and Shivraj Adhikari. The official's ministry has not been specified. While appointing ministers from the Congress, Lama has not taken sides and both of them are close to Baniyan.

Baniyan, who was appointed Chief Minister on July 20 after replacing the Lama-led government, has been of the opinion that he should be allowed to work independently. Baniyan says that since he was the chairman of the provincial working committee of the Lama-led government that was formed a year ago, he did not interfere in the government's work since the appointment of the minister. "If I wanted to, I could have caused a lot of trouble, but I didn't do anything, I didn't interfere because they should be allowed to work freely at that time," he said. Not by my will.' According to Baniyan, there was an agreement to hand over the leadership to Lama after running the government for one year. However, Lama has been claiming that there is no such agreement.
