Press Center Nepal has requested to amend the system of registration and renewal of online media at the district administration office. The Center issued a statement on Thursday saying that the press freedom will be weakened even more by the related provisions.

It is wrong to start amending the 34-year-old law as it is necessary to create an umbrella law related to mass media according to the changing political system. "The government is trying to control the media, has rejected federalism, has taken away the rights of the provinces, and the center urges the creation of an umbrella law related to communication to organize the registration, renewal and regulation of the mass media," said the statement released by the center's general secretary Manoj Gharti Magar.
