40 women who were about to be sent to Gulf countries via Delhi have been rescued. All of them were ready to be sent as domestic workers to different Gulf countries. The Nepali Embassy in Delhi rescued them from various hotels in Mahipalpur with the help of the Indian police.
The government of Nepal has banned women from working as domestic workers in Gulf countries. SSP Prakash Malla of Nepal Police said that the Nepali women were rescued after receiving information that they were going to be sent to Khadi. With the help of Delhi Police and social organization Kin India, they were rescued by the embassy and sent to Nepal by land on Thursday.
There is a demand for domestic workers in Gulf countries. The government of Nepal stopped the women domestic workers who came there after they started being exploited in various ways. However, brokers send Nepali women there with the lure of attractive income. Brokers send Nepali women to the Gulf countries from various airports in India as it becomes a problem to pass through Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport. Between the demand for workers in the Gulf and the lack of employment in Nepal, the brokers have been sending women that way.
According to Naveen Joshi, head of Kin India, the 40 rescued people were going to be sent to Kuwait, Oman, Dubai and Saudi Arabia. He said that they were rescued when they were preparing to send it. He has informed that all the rescued people are going to be brought to Kathmandu by land.
Embassy coordinated and evicted 63 women from hotels in Mahipalpur. Out of them, 23 people were released as they were ready to go to different European countries after completing the necessary documents. Out of the other 40 people, 31 are going to be sent to Kuwait, 4 to Oman, 4 to Dubai and 1 to Saudi Arabia, said SSP Mall. They were brought to Delhi from different places in 24 districts of Nepal.
47 women who were about to be sent to Gulf countries via Delhi were rescued and brought to Nepal in the second week of July. Delhi airport immigration stopped the women who were going to Kuwait on visit visas after their documents were found to be fake.
