The victim savers of the cooperative met with the Home Minister Ramesh Lekhar on Monday, demanding the immediate arrest of Geetendra Bahadur Rai alias GB Rai, who is absconding after misappropriating the funds of the cooperative. Although it has been a long time since the Red Corner Notice was issued by Interpol against Rai, who is abroad, he has not been arrested.

 Aggrieved savers have also filed a petition at the Prime Minister's Office.

After understanding our letter, the Home Minister said that the process of arresting the absconders is in progress. He also called the Minister of Cooperatives in front of us and requested him to arrange the environment for the return of the savings immediately," said Shalikram Duwadi, coordinator of the struggle committee formed by the victim savers of the Sahara Chitwan Multi-Purpose Cooperative. The victim savers also met the Attorney General on Monday.

The savers of five cooperatives including Bharatpur-based Sahara Chitwan Multi-Purpose Cooperative Organization, which GB Rai is the founder and director of, met the officials of various cooperative bodies in Kathmandu on Sunday and put forward their demands. They demand that GB Rai, who escaped after misappropriating the savings, should be arrested and legal action should be taken and an environment should be created for the victimized savers to get their money back.

Minister of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation met Balram Adhikari on Sunday and submitted a memorandum with various measures and demands to solve the problem of the victims who did not get back the savings of cooperatives. Although 38 people including GB Rai have been made defendants in Sahara Cooperative, only two have been arrested so far, while others, including GB, are absconding, they have demanded to arrest all of them.

Similarly, Duwadi, the coordinator of the Chitwan Sahara Savings Sufferers' Struggles Committee, said that other borrowers who have taken loans from cooperatives will be called upon to prepare a procedure and call them to pay their debts and to designate a place to repay the loans. Duwadi informed that there is a possibility that 17 to 18 million rupees will be raised immediately in Sahara Chitwan if the borrower who says that he will repay the loan is assigned a place to pay the loan.

Similarly, the affected savers also met the chairman of the National Cooperative Regulation Authority at Pulchok in Lalitpur on Sunday and asked them to create an environment for debt recovery and the return of savings.

The demand of the victims is that the authority should facilitate the debtors who say 'we pay the debt'. "If the Cooperative Regulatory Authority creates a separate bank account for the borrowers to pay the loan, it seems that the loan can be repaid," said the letter submitted to the authority. Similarly, Duwadi said that if the co-operative victims and those accused of fraud want to settle, the authority should take initiative.

According to Duwadi, the investigation revealed that five crore rupees of the amount of the cooperative was loaned at the local level. He said that there should be a method and place to pay such debt. Due to the fact that the case has gone to the court, if we wait for the court's decision, it will take a long time and the chances of the victims to get back the savings from the withholding of the victims is very low, according to Duwadi, an arrangement should be made immediately.

'To get back the money of the victims, we have frozen the movable and immovable property such as shares and land of the owners of the cooperative and other accused. But those movable and immovable assets have also been frozen by placing a mortgage in some bank. It is mentioned in the letter submitted to the authority that it will take a long time to wait for the court's decision, and as the interest and damages of the bank increase, the victim will get the money. Instead, it has been asked to sell those properties on time.

Victim savers of Sahara Chitwan of Bharatpur, Supreme Cooperative of Butwal, Suryadarshan of Pokhara, Sano Paila of Birgunj and Swarna Lakshmi Cooperative of Kathmandu reached Kathmandu and held a joint meeting with various agencies. GB Rai is the founder and director of all these cooperatives.
