Tirtharaj Bhattarai, head of Diktel Rupakot Mazhuwagadhi Municipality of Khotang, has started Satyagraha at Maitighar in Kathmandu. He has sat on satyagraha since around 9 am on Sunday morning with the demand to promote local products including bamboo and products made from bamboo.

Bhattarai said that on May 23rd and June 6th, he sent various seven-pointed demands to the Prime Minister, including promotion of local products, including bamboo, but the government was indifferent to implementation. Bhattarai secretariat member Chiranjeevi Khatiwada said that when they tried to circumambulate Singha Darbar with bamboo and materials made from bamboo, they were stopped by the police.

Bhattarai says that Satyagraha will be held till 5 pm on Sunday. Bhattarai warned that he would fast to death if the demands were not met even after three days of satyagraha. He had gone to Kathmandu on July 4th, carrying bamboo mats, gundris, radii, straw, etc., along with bamboo.
