Rights activists have written an open letter to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Saturday, saying that the government is silent about the massacre in Gaza.
In the letter, it is demanded that the government of Nepal should take a clear stand against serious humanitarian crimes such as the death of more than 60,000 people in Gaza, starvation, attacks on hospitals and schools.
The letter says, "We the signatories are saddened that the government of Nepal has not taken a serious response to the ethnic genocide perpetrated by the Israeli government under the leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu for the world to see for almost two years." "Nepal's open society and democratic constitution should inspire the government to speak in favor of humanity and peaceful resolution of conflicts in the international arena," the letter said.
Recalling the killing of 10 Nepali people and the abduction of one person two years ago, they have asked to take initiative for dialogue with Hamas, not to sign a new agreement with Israel and to stop people accused of war crimes from entering Nepal. The letter states that Israel has made hunger and food shortage its war strategy and has imposed a complete ban on grain and medicine entering Gaza.
"Only last week more than 800 innocent people who were looking for food and water were killed by the Israeli army," the letter says, "If the Nepalese government remains silent on the ongoing massacre in Gaza, the credibility and moral responsibility of our nation may be questioned." We don't want to see Nepal weakened in terms of speaking in favor of justice and peace on the international stage.'' It is mentioned in the letter of Bipin Joshi, who was kidnapped and 10 Nepali students were killed in the terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel on 7th October 2023.
