The Supreme Court has given an interim order not to implement the 'Iodised Salt (Production and Sale and Distribution) Act 2055'.

The joint bench of Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Mahesh Sharma Paudel issued an interim order on June 30 and said that the Iodized Salt Act 2055 should not be implemented on July 1. It is mentioned in the order that about 25 years have passed since the creation of the Act and it is seen that the work of making regulations which is a necessary prerequisite for the implementation of the Act has not been done so far.

In addition, it is mentioned in the order that the supply and sale distribution of iodized salt, which is directly related to the health and livelihood of the general public, may be affected by the application of the Preparatory Act without the necessary provisions. In the

order, it is said, 'There is no situation in which irreparable damage can be caused to anyone if the law is not implemented immediately and due to the nature of the presented content, it is appropriate to issue the writ petition at the time of the deadline, the present writ petition will be as determined at the time of the deadline. Currently, the government of Nepal, the Ministry of Health and Population, dated July 1, 2082, the Iodized Salt Production and Sale and Distribution Act, 2055 will be published in the Nepal Gazette. Not implementing the notice.' In the

order, it is mentioned that the implementation of the Iodized Salt Production and Sale and Distribution Act 2055 has been stopped as regulations have not been issued.

Advocate Shital Maharjan called for the repeal of the 'Iodized Salt Production and Sale and Distribution Act, 2055' made 25 years ago, as the plan to import and distribute iodized salt from the private sector, which is directly related to the health of the common people, would have serious long-term effects on human health when the Act is enacted.
