UML has decided to ask former president Bidya Devi Bhandari to stay as a parent without returning to party politics. The UML central committee meeting concluded that it is better for the ex-president to remain in a respected position than to enter party politics. With this decision, there has been a 'break' in Bhandari's aspiration to lead the UML.

In Tuesday's central committee meeting, Chairman KP Sharma Oli submitted a proposal regarding former president Bhandari's coming/not coming to the party. He also mentioned that former President Bhandari ignored his suggestion to take care of the President's dignity while submitting the proposal.

He also argued that the republic will be questioned when the former president comes into active politics. Oli said, "The former president should not come to party politics, taking care of his dignity.

At midnight, the Central Committee meeting passed a resolution that the former president's party should not enter politics. "While waiting for the suggestions given by the president and his response, he challenged the central committee meeting by holding a press conference, so the meeting decided to ask former president Bidya Devi Bhandari not to return to the party, but to remain as a counselor and guardian in accordance with her dignity as a former president," the decision of UML said.

After President Oli announced this decision, Vice Presidents Yuvraj Gyawali and Surendra Pandey and Standing Committee member Karn Thapa disagreed. Gyawali insisted that Bhandari's return to UML should be decided by the Central Secretariat. "Let's not rush now, it can be resolved through the central secretariat meeting," he said, "this decision will increase frustration within the party, and the morale of the opposition will rise."

Another Vice President Pandey said that instead of making hasty decisions, a conclusion can be reached by discussing with former President Bhandari. Thapa, on the other hand, disagreed by mentioning that the method of stopping the former president was wrong. Earlier, Senior Vice President Ishwar Pokharel, who was openly in favor of Bhandari, remained silent when the party's decision was announced.

According to UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, the Central Committee has concluded that the person who is the symbol of national unity, the guardian of the Constitution and the Supreme Commander of the Nepali Army should not return to party politics. If the president thinks of returning to politics in the future, it will affect his performance. Even if done fairly, questions arise. Therefore, it is a decision that it is unfair to return to party politics,” he said.

In the decision of the Central Committee meeting, it is also mentioned that the membership renewal of former President Bhandari has not been finalized. Out of 184 people who spoke at the Central Committee meeting, only about one and a half dozen spoke in favor of former President Bhandari. Their argument was that Bhandari should be active because of his experience and age.

Others said that Oli will be unopposed even from the upcoming convention. They said that if the former president comes into active politics, the republic will be questioned. The UML Central Committee has three hundred and one members. In the

meeting, senior vice president Ishwar Pokharel and vice president Yuvraj Gyawali openly expressed their opinion in favor of former president Bhandari. Standing Committee member Karn Thapa, Politburo member Gokul Baskota, Anand Pokharel, Sita Paudel, Purushottam Paudel and Arun Nepal said that the constitution will not interfere with the former president entering politics.

Central members Rachna Khadka, Arbind Singh, Indralal Sapkota, Krishna Poudel, Diwakar Devkota, Saroj Yadav, Kedar Neupane, Parvati Rawal and Yuvraj Baskota argued that barring the former president could damage the party. Central member Baskota said that there should be a provision that party officials cannot take more than two terms.

"It is not only two terms of political work, but also the provision of not stepping down from the top to take government responsibility and not being allowed to take more than two terms in the position," he said. Baskota also said that although President Oli and former President Bhandari have important responsibilities in building the party, they should not be divided now. Comrade KP Sharma Oli and Bidya Devi Bhandari are two sides of the same coin in building this party till today. But the party has been split from bottom to bottom, there is mutual non-cooperation,'' he said, 'when a ward president joins the party, we are extremely happy, it becomes national news - the issue of renewing the former president's party membership becomes a target of criticism, opposition and condemnation.'

'Rather than changing the constitution looking at a particular person, let's make a constitution to strengthen the organization, the current president comrade has had enough leadership opportunities. Now unconditional leadership should be handed over and handed down," he said, "regardless of who is the chairman in mutual agreement, the next constitution should determine the guarantee that the party will run under the committee." He demanded that the

constitution should not remove organized members without any criminal charges. The Central Committee meeting has passed the constitutional amendment proposal on Tuesday. This proposal will now be submitted directly to the Legislative Assembly next month.

I will not stop: Vidya Bhandari

Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that she will not stop now that she has entered active politics. While most of the members of the UML central committee are arguing that the former president should not join politics, she said that she will not stop joining politics.

Former President Bhandari said that she had no reason to stop her political movement from 2035/36 through student politics until 062/63. I have moved on. There is no stopping now," she told reporters at her residence in Bhangla on Tuesday, "I have renewed my membership. I have not asked for any responsibility.'

UML's decision not to allow Bhandari to return to the party

Claiming that she did not want to be the president in the beginning, Bhandari said that she accepted the position by concluding that she could serve the country and the people. "I don't think that the party will stop me from joining politics," she said, "if they don't let me speak in the central committee, that is completely wrong." I renewed my membership yesterday. The responsible leader knows that,'' she explained the reason why Oli was unhappy. Before that, he didn't even like my written wishes for the new year.'' He commented that he was insulted by bringing the

membership renewal controversy. The party sent him to the front when he became president. Membership is not abandoned forever,” she said. She also objected that her topic was brought up in the party meeting called to discuss the draft law.
