Contribution-based social security 756,000 workers have been given Rs 15.75 billion for social security.

The fund, which was started five years ago, has given 15 billion 75 crore rupees as relief to workers and their dependent families from the scheme for medical treatment, maternity services, accident, disability, old age protection and dependent family support schemes. 83.65 billion rupees have been deposited in the fund so far from workers and employers.

This was previously limited only to institutional workers in the formal sector. Now it is becoming the focal point of ensuring social security for workers all over Nepal,'' said Kaviraj Adhikari, the executive director of the fund.

He said that the limit of 1 lakh for medical treatment has been increased to 10 lakh rupees in the case of contributors who need to be hospitalized and treated. "The facility has been expanded so that the fund will provide 50 percent co-payment facility for treatment expenses up to 10 lakh rupees," he said. The number of employers listed in the

fund has reached 20,951. The number of contributing workers has reached 23 lakh 74 thousand 486. This number has increased by almost 9 lakh compared to the previous year, according to the fund. In the financial year 2081/82, only 25 billion 36 million rupees were collected and the total amount collected reached 83 billion 65 million rupees, the fund said. The fund has been listing organized, unorganized, self-employed and foreign workers in the fund. According to the

fund, out of the regular contributors, 110,696 contributors have been paid 2.15 billion rupees under the drug treatment, health and maternity protection scheme. According to the executive director officer, 200 million was paid to 5 thousand 933 contributors under accident and disability protection plan, 260 million to 745 people under dependent family protection plan and 13.13 billion to 112 thousand 868 contributors under old age protection plan. In the last year alone, an additional 362 thousand people were given an amount of 5.87 billion. Under the

contribution scheme, 34 thousand 20 contributors were paid 6 billion 90 crores under the special scheme, 67 contributors were given 130 crores of house subsidy and 10 contributors were given 10 crores of educational scheme.

fund is serving 107 health institutions through a 'dedicated line'. A cooperation agreement has been signed with 12 financial institutions to collect the contribution of foreign employment and self-employed workers. "After working till the working age and deducting a part of the earnings monthly and depositing it in the social security fund of the state mechanism, the mentality is developing that the state will take care of me and my family if something happens", the executive director said, "On the other hand, the fund is an important means of mobilizing internal capital and is preparing policy bases so that the fund can be used for the construction of state infrastructure."
