On the eve of the Second Legislative Congress, the ninth meeting of the Central Committee of CPN (UML) is being held from today.
In the meeting held at the party's central office, Chasal from 11:00 in the afternoon, there will be a discussion on the constitutional amendment proposal and organizational report to be presented in the legislative convention. The meeting of the Central Committee will continue till Tuesday. Earlier, on 2nd and 3rd of July, UML's Politburo meeting passed the resolution to amend the constitution.
Rajendra Gautam, head of UML's Central Publicity and Publication Department, said that Vice President Bishnu Prasad Paudel, who is responsible for drafting the law, will present the proposal for the amendment of the law and that central members who are interested in the proposed law amendment will be given time to express their opinions within three minutes at most. Apart from the Secretariat, Standing Committee and Politburo members, about 230 central members will be able to express their opinion in the
meeting. It is said that in the legislative amendment proposal, there is a proposal to remove the 70-year age limit for party officials and the provision that they cannot serve two terms in the same position.
UML's legislative convention is scheduled to be held at Sunrise Hall in Godavari, Lalitpur from 20th to 22nd of August. It is said that the matter will be raised in the central committee regarding former president Bidya Devi Bhandari's announcement to return to the active politics of the party.
