Only 28 MPs are in favor of the government in the 59-member National Assembly
Upendra Yadav-led Janata Samajwadi Party, Nepal has withdrawn its support to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's government.
MP Prakash Adhikari informed that JSP, Nepal's parliamentary party meeting held on Wednesday decided to withdraw the support given to the Oli government. The official said that the parties that support the government will be asked about some issues only when needed, otherwise they will not care and the decision to withdraw the support was made after the Prime Minister did not respond positively to the issues raised by the party. The official said that even the parties that supported
were opposed to the government's wrongdoings and decisions. 'The government has not done anything, what can we do by supporting them? came to the conclusion,' said the official, 'after we said we would withdraw the support, the government and the leadership of the alliance showed interest and called for a discussion . However, we have decided to withdraw our support as there is no possibility of addressing our agenda.'
The official said that the decision to withdraw the support was also made due to the fact that no initiative has been taken to amend the constitution, which was promised during the formation of the alliance, and due to the fact that good governance is becoming weaker day by day and corruption is rampant. "The governance of the government is weak, the cost is the same, there is no improvement at any level." It was seen that the fault of the government's wrong actions and decisions is coming to the supporting parties as well,' he said .
Similarly, the Land Ordinance was rejected by Jaspa, Nepal. However, when bringing the bill now, the official also said that the provisions in the ordinance have been kept intact. He said that due to which the support given to the government has been withdrawn. 'The Land Bill is like that . We opposed the land ordinance, but we said that we cannot support it after bringing the bill with such provisions,' said the official.
There are five MPs from Jaspa, Nepal in the House of Representatives. This party has three MPs in the National Assembly. JSP, Nepal's withdrawal of support in the House of Representatives will not affect the government, but it will affect the National Assembly. With JSP, Nepal withdrawing its support in the National Assembly, the government will be in the minority.
In the 59-member National Assembly, there are only 16 MPs from Congress, 10 from UML, 1 from LOSPA and 1 nominated MP in favor of the government. Thus, there are only 28 MPs in the ruling party of the National Assembly. Earlier, there were 31 MPs when supported by Jaspa, Nepal.
Now there will be a majority against the National Assembly. 30 MPs including 17 from Maoist, 8 from United Socialist Party, 3 from Jaspa, Nepal, 1 nominated and 1 from Jan Morcha will be in the opposition. It does not include the Speaker of the National Assembly. Among those nominated by the government, one is the President of the National Assembly, one is in power and the other is in the opposition. With the minority in the National Assembly, the government will be able to pass the bill.
Although Yadav has withdrawn his support, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli does not have to take a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives. Article 100 (2) of the Constitution provides for the government to take a vote of confidence. In which it is written, 'If the party represented by the Prime Minister splits or if the party participating in the government withdraws its support, the Prime Minister must submit a proposal to the House of Representatives for a vote of confidence within 30 days.'
