Koirala, who was sent to replace Bhattarai, was transferred less than two months later
The Ministry of Home Affairs has transferred the Director General of Immigration Department and Head of Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport. The director general of the department, Gobind Prasad Rizal, has been transferred by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Ramchandra Tiwari of the Ministry of Home Affairs has been sent in Rizal's place. Tiwari was the spokesperson and head of peace and security division in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Airport chief Bishnu Prasad Koirala has also been transferred by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Both of them were transferred on Tuesday. Khotang Chief District Officer Narahari Ghimire has been sent in place of Koirala.
Koirala was sent to the airport last May after the Abuse of Authority Investigation Commission started an investigation into the visit visa case against the airport's immigration chief Tirtha Bhattarai. Bhattarai was pulled over by the Ministry of Home Affairs two days before the Authority started the investigation. He was returned home in 8 months. Koirala returned to the Ministry of Home Affairs less than two months after being sent to the airport.
Koirala was transferred from the chief district officer of Panchthar to the chief immigration officer of the airport last May. Ghimire, who has now been sent to the airport, was in charge of the spokesperson in the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority before being appointed. Kalpana Shrestha, joint secretary working in the Ministry of Home Affairs, has been transferred to the chief district officer of Khotang in place of Ghimire.
Rizal was transferred from the Home Ministry to the Immigration Department last October. Rizal, who has been the chief district officer in districts including Kathmandu, has not been involved in any controversy so far. He was transferred within nine months of becoming the Director General.
According to domestic sources, no one agrees to stay in the airport immigration department or be transferred because they are in controversy from time to time. Earlier, they were very willing to go there, but now they are reluctant to transfer due to the fear of controversy, said the officials of the home. Even now, the Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed the police to investigate after the issue of some people who went to Spain on a Covid visa not returning was raised in the Parliament. CIB has formed an inquiry committee in the said case.
