Minister of Home Affairs Ramesh Akhtar has said that coordination and cooperation between all three levels of government is necessary in disaster risk reduction and management. In a program held at the Ministry of Home Affairs today, the Home Minister said that disaster management falls under the jurisdiction of all the three levels in the division of jurisdiction of the federal, state and local governments.
"We are in a high-risk geography," he said, "coordination and cooperation between all three levels is necessary for disaster preparedness and management." Stating that there are emergency warehouses in all the seven provinces, he informed that the operation of these warehouses has been transferred to the provincial government. "Kathmandu's warehouse will remain with the disaster authority," he said, "six state-level warehouses will be operated by the state government."
Since the local people's representatives are the closest to the citizens, the home minister emphasized that emergency warehouses should be established at the municipal level and enabled for disaster management at the grassroots level. He said that everyone should cooperate and coordinate in disaster prevention and post-disaster search, rescue and rehabilitation. He said that in the past, during the calamity, the government of Godamgarh province was given the responsibility of managing the Godamgarh by facilitating the complicated process of using materials from the Godamgarh.
