90 megawatts in operation from hydropower project damaged by floods: Minister Khadka

The Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has said that out of the hydropower projects that were blocked due to the floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa, projects with a capacity of about 90 megawatts have been put into operation.

 

Answering the questions of MPs in today's meeting of the National Assembly, Minister Khadka said that Chilime, Devighat, Trishuli, Suryakund, Buddhabhumi,  He informed that hydropower projects with a total capacity of 90 megawatts including Upper Maulung have been put into operation.

He informed that the Trishuli 'A' hydropower project of 60 megawatt capacity will be operational in a few days . Minister Khadka said that the work has already started to bring more capacity projects into operation soon.  

'It will take some time to bring the structure of Rasuwagadhi hydroelectric power project with the most damage of 111 megawatt capacity into operation,' Minister Khadka said, 'The project was damaged more by the flood. Its "headworks" has been completely damaged. We have started working to make it operational as soon as possible.'

In the previous meeting of the assembly, Minister Khadka had informed that there was a disconnection in the national transmission system of about 260 megawatts due to the severe damage to the electricity projects and transmission structures operating in the Trishuli river corridor due to the Rasuwa flood.

He asked to be aware that even though the flow of flood in the area is decreasing, the risk remains the same. Minister Khadka informed that detailed study and evaluation work has been carried out and said that all precautionary measures have been adopted.
