Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba and German Foreign Minister Johann David Wedfull had a bilateral meeting on Tuesday. During the talks held in Berlin, Germany, Nepal-Germany relations, bilateral interests and various issues of common interest were discussed.

On that occasion, Minister Rana expressed her gratitude to the German government and German citizens, recalling the continuous support received from Germany, one of the major development and trade partners of Nepal, in economic, social and other fields.

Minister Rana emphasized that there should be a collective effort to further promote bilateral trade between Nepal and Germany and encouraged networking between the private sectors of both countries and requested Germany to invest in chemical fertilizer factories and other sectors in Nepal. He mentioned the potential challenges and opportunities after being upgraded from the least developed country in 2026. Informing that necessary strategies are being made to make it easy and sustainable, she also said that Nepal expects resources, technology and financial support from Germany, European Union and other partners in the days to come.

In the same way, Minister Rana informed that Nepal has submitted a candidacy for the position of member of the Human Rights Council for 2027 to 2029, member of the Economic and Social Council for 2029 to 2031 and temporary member of the Security Council for 2037 to 2038.

Germany is Europe's second largest source of tourists for Nepal and even though there is a huge potential for tourism between the two countries, Minister Rana also asked for direct flights between the two countries because of the lack of direct air connectivity.

She clarified that the lack of direct flights between Nepal and Europe is having a serious impact on the promotion of tourism between the two countries due to the ban on flights after Nepali "airlines" were listed in the air safety list of the European Union.

The government of Nepal has submitted two bills to the parliament to restructure the Civil Aviation Authority and the proposed law is not only the best practice in the world but also in accordance with the recommendations of the EU and ICAO. When requesting Germany, which is also an influential member state of the EU, to play a role in removing the ban on Nepali airlines, the German Foreign Minister David assured that he would give his best support in that regard as well.   During the

meeting, Foreign Minister Rana mentioned that climate change is having an unimaginable effect on Nepal and the country is suffering from many side effects, and hoped for cooperation from Germany in the climate justice campaign being carried out by Nepal.
