The government has agreed with the agitating doctors due to the consumer court ruling that the treatment was 'medically negligent' and the hospital and the doctors involved in the treatment should pay compensation.

A 3-member working group has been formed by submitting a report with suggestions within 7 days on matters including necessary amendments to the legal and policy arrangements to address the demands of the agitating Nepal Physicians Association and various organizations and stakeholders.

The members of the working group formed by being the chief coordinator of the Supply Management and Consumer Protection Division under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply will have 1/1 joint secretary level representative from the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and the Ministry of Health.  Regarding the report received from the

working group, it is agreed that the relevant ministry will take principled consent from the Council of Ministers within 11 days for necessary amendments to the existing legal and policy provisions, including the Consumer Protection Act 2075, which will be submitted to this negotiation team, including the concerned parties, including the Nepal Medical Association and the Nepal Medical Association, and will proceed with the fast-track process for amending the law as soon as possible. According to this agreement, it has also been agreed to suspend all kinds of protests and conduct regular services by the concerned organizations including the medical association.

The consumer court ruled that the treatment was 'medically negligent' and ordered the hospital and the doctors involved in the treatment to pay compensation in three different cases. The doctors were protesting in stages for a week. As a result, on Monday and Tuesday, all services except emergency services were stopped in hospitals across the country. The agitating doctors also demonstrated at Maitighar in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
