From Ashad Shukla Ekadashi to Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu sleeps in Kshirsagar for four months, so today is called Harishayani Ekadashi, according to Prof. Dr. Devmani Bhattarai, a theologian and a member of the Nepal Panchang Adjudicatory Development Committee. The four months during which Lord Vishnu sleeps is also called Chaturmasa.

After the formal marriage of Tulsi and Damodar, Havan is also performed for the observance of the Chaturmasa fast through the Agnisthapana method.
