The highway has been blocked for 26 hours due to a vehicle stuck in the mud on the south section of the east-west highway. Police stopped the trucks going from Narayangadh to Butwal since early morning at Rajhar, about 40 km away, so that there is no traffic jam in Downe.
Hundreds of vehicles going east-west are stuck in the road. However, the Chinese contractor company China State Engineering Corporation, which has been awarded the contract for upgrading the highway, has not taken any initiative to open the highway.
Passengers who are stuck in a jam on the mountain have been rescued. "Dawne is jammed for weeks now," District Traffic Police Inspector Janakraj Banjara said. According to him, this situation has come about because the Chinese company that took the contract for the highway upgrade did not work.
Near Vishwakarma Temple in Daunne, any loaded vehicle gets stuck due to potholes and mud. Apil Narayan Shrestha of Rupandehi, Sheetalnagar, who arrived at Bardghat this morning, said, 'There is a traffic jam here that cannot be taken even by motorbike. The Prime Minister goes by helicopter to inaugurate the Beili Bridge built in Humla, but it is sad not to know the condition of the main highway of the country. Passengers are in trouble, who will take care of this situation?'
Near the Vishwakarma temple in Daunne, there is a long traffic jam every day due to the fact that goods vehicles get stuck even when it rains normally. But the contractor company that is doing the work of upgrading the highway is unaware.
