Stakeholders have expressed concern that drug addiction has emerged as a serious social, mental and health crisis in Nepal.

Government data shows that especially young people in the age group of 13 to 20 years are falling under the grip of addiction. It seems that mental problems are gradually getting deeper in those who are addicted. According to a former drug user, Prakhin Sunar, teenagers between the ages of 13 and 20 have recently become addicted to drugs.

She said, "They seem to have serious mental problems. Especially the condition of female users is still weak. Although there are some correctional centers for men, there is a lack of safe, accessible and permanent centers for women."

It is estimated that the incidence of sexual violence is also increasing as drug addiction increases. Krishna Kumari Paudel, an honorable member of the National Commission for Women, said that although there is no research, drug addiction among the young generation has increased the incidence of sexual violence.

In the press interaction program organized by the National Women's Commission, Paudel said that it is very difficult to work because of the male mentality. He said that the Commission has a problem in dealing with the incidents of 77 districts due to low budget. Violence against women has been silenced across the country.

Most of the 506 complaints registered in the Women's Commission in the financial year 2080/081 are related to domestic violence, mental, physical and financial violence. But violence against women in the professional field has never appeared as a complaint. Even though thousands of cases of violence have been registered in the police, looking at the details of the commission, a big gap of difference has been seen. According to the

commission, violence against women is 'zero' in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim. According to the details of the Women's Commission, Bagmati province has the highest number of 11 complaints of violence against women. After that, only 1-1 complaints have been registered in Madhesh and Koshi provinces respectively. In the remaining four provinces, there has not been a single complaint of violence against women, which is a matter of concern . Looking at the number of

complaints, financial violence is the most visible. Problems such as preventing women from employment, controlling income, and not giving rights to land or property may have caused this problem. But unfortunately, there are only 8 complaints of sexual violence, which may be a sign of discomfort in filing complaints due to widespread stigma, fear, and infamy in the society .

Why is there no professional violence against women? Many women are victims of sexual harassment, harassment or discrimination in the office, industry, service sector or informal labor sector, but they are not in a position to complain.  Officials have said, 'The absence of complaints does not mean the absence of violence . It has not been possible to create an environment where women can speak, listen, and get justice.'
