More than 1.3 million Nepali workers received labor services from Sami

13 lakh 33 thousand 377 people have taken direct services from the third phase of the Safe Immigration Program (SAMI), which is run with the goal of making foreign employment safe, dignified and profitable.

According to the public details of the 'Sami Third Phase Learning and Experience Exchange' program held in Kathmandu organized by the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, 13 lakh 33 thousand 377 people including 3 lakh 66 thousand 771 women have taken services from the Migration Resource Center (MRC) across the country in the third phase which was conducted from August 2075 to November 2081 

During this period, 771 thousand 344 people received information and counseling on safe foreign employment, 31 thousand 835 people received assistance and facilitation to ensure access to justice, 14 thousand 106 people received psychosocial counseling, 8 thousand 712 people received skill development training and 62 thousand 990 families receiving remittances received financial literacy training services. During the crisis of the Covid-19 epidemic, only 39 thousand 304 people took psychosocial counseling services, according to the Sami program. In the

program, Labor Minister Sharatsingh Bhandari mentioned that the Sami program was successful with the adoption, partnership and cooperation of the three levels of government and said, 'Sami is going in the right direction . It has confirmed its justification . Now the fourth stage will have to be made more effective.'

Labor Secretary Krishnahari Pushkar pledged to implement the learnings from the Sami program in policy making and immigration administration. Nischal Raj Pandey, joint secretary of the ministry, said in the program that the Sami program has contributed significantly to the improvement of the foreign employment sector.

The Sami program has been conducted in collaboration with federal, provincial and local governments according to the federal structure of Nepal. Helvetas Nepal has been providing technical support in this program, which is being run with the support of the Swiss government. In the

experience exchange program, the heads of the local level including Hetounda, Itahari, Hariwan, Sharda, Janaki, etc. positively evaluated the impact and effectiveness of the Sami program at the community level and emphasized that it should be continued in the future. The

Sami program has now entered its fourth phase. It is said that the strategy and learning based on the detailed review of the third phase will be prioritized for institutional reform and policy development in the next implementation.
