Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arju Rana Deuba has requested the international community to support sustainable agriculture system for Nepal and landlocked countries like Nepal and climate finance for Himalayan region.

Addressing the 44th General Assembly of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization held in Rome on Monday, she asked to ensure grant-based international climate finance for Nepal, which is suffering from climate change, and especially for the Himalayan region.

'Nepal and the Himalayan regions of countries like Nepal are the most affected due to the climate crisis. However, these areas have been neglected in climate finance and adaptation efforts. It is important to pay attention to this matter,'  Minister Dr. Rana said.

Mentioning that the agricultural sector is the backbone of Nepal's economy, the minister informed that agriculture contributes 23 percent of Nepal's gross domestic product and about two-thirds of the population is dependent on agriculture. She also clarified that the role of agriculture is important from food security to nutrition, poverty alleviation and rural development.

He said that the goal of creating a hunger-free world by 2030 is still incomplete and epidemics, climate crisis, economic instability and geopolitical tensions are also attacking sustainable development goals. She said that promotion of sustainable and sustainable hill agriculture is essential and it is not only important for our livelihood but also for the biological diversity of this earth, ensuring food security and ecological balance of the earth.

Stating that Nepal is willing to expand successful and innovative agricultural practices with the approach of 'Four Better', she said, 'We are looking for cooperation to extend access to early warning systems to farmers.'
