Paddy Day, which is celebrated on 15th June every year, is being celebrated today by working in the fields and eating yogurt. Farmers who are tired from the hustle and bustle of work eat curds to gain strength. At this time, curd is believed to cool the body and accumulate energy.
Asar 15 is also considered as a festival for eating curds in Nepali society. Apart from farming, Nepalis who are engaged in other professions and businesses also celebrate Asar 15 today by eating Dahi Chiura.
Yogurt has an important place in our culture. For auspicious deeds, before going out of the house, going abroad, etc., before doing important work, it is a tradition to apply curd akshata on the forehead and apply red tika on the forehead. Before leaving for such auspicious work, curd is also offered as a farewell. There is a popular belief that eating curd while walking will make you sick.
Yogurt is also considered to be health promoting from a scientific point of view. It is said that Guru Gorakhnath had prophesied that the unifier of Nepal, Shri 5 Bada Maharajadhiraj Prithvi Narayan Shah, would become mighty by giving curd to eat. In Ayurveda, it is said that if you drink mohi made with curd at the end of a meal, you do not need to go to a health professional for medical treatment. A sentence like 'Bhojanante pibet takram vaidyasya kin pojonam' is also mentioned in Ayurveda. Yogurt also improves digestion.
If you eat yogurt when you have diarrhea, it works as a medicine. That is why the custom of eating curd has become widespread in Nepali culture. In this way, 15th June has become a national cultural festival in Nepali society.
On 29th November 2061, a ministerial decision was taken to celebrate National Rice Day from 15th June 2062. Being an agricultural country, the majority of people in Nepal are farmers.
Farmers are busy in farming this month to collect rice for the year. These days paddy is planted in muddy mud while singing folk songs in Asare Vaka. Singing folk songs such as 'Chupu ar chupu in the mud and planting paddy and leaving it, Bani Kulo Lagi Pani Aai Godaula' is also enjoyed in the fields.
At this time of mid-summer, young Lathes and young Ropahars entertain themselves by splashing the mud of the fields. There is also a belief in Nepalese society that one should get into the mud once in June.
This year, till the middle of June, due to lack of sufficient rainfall in all parts of the country, rice planting has not been done as much as it should be. Farmers have complained about lack of chemical fertilizers in some places. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has claimed that there is a sufficient amount of chemical fertilizers in stock.
