Now the Early Childhood Development Class (ECD) before Class 1 is going to be 2 years. On Friday, in the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives, the parliamentarians agreed that the ECD program will remain for 2 years in both types of schools.

With the agreement between the parties in the education bill, ECD has been included in the school structure.  According to the committee, early childhood development and education can be conducted as a two-year program in public schools by ensuring

sources and starting from the date specified by the government. "No school will be allowed to conduct pre-primary education for a period of more than two years," Committee Chairman Ammar Bahadur Thapa said while mentioning the passage of the provisions of the bill.

According to President Thapa, there will be no age limit for child development facilitators currently working in early childhood development and education to participate in the open competition for the first time. In addition, regardless of what is written in this Act and other existing laws, children who have no experience in early childhood development and education cannot be denied admission to Class 1 and since the commencement of the Act, to be appointed as a child facilitator, at least Class 12 or similar exams must be passed.

According to Chairman Thapa, child facilitators who will be appointed after the commencement of the Act will have to undergo service entry training as stipulated in the local law before starting the service. In Friday's meeting, the parliamentarians said that child development is the earliest stage of human life and emphasized that it should not be kept outside of school education.

Earlier, a proposal was put forward to keep different periods in ECD operations in public and private schools. It was proposed in the school education bill that public schools can operate for two years and private schools can operate for as many years. The parliamentarians were arguing that children would be discriminated against when there were different periods.

ECD classes are currently being conducted for 1 year in public schools and 3 to 4 years in private schools. To discuss the issue, a sub-committee chaired by UML MP Chabilal Vishwakarma agreed to make ECD two years in both public and private schools and submitted a report.
