The history of British Gurkha soldiers is something to be proud of: Chairman Deuba

Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the history of British Gurkha soldiers is something to be proud of. He said that the bravery, hard work, commitment and discipline of British Gurkha soldiers are appreciated all over the world at the Sugauli Treaty and Citizenship in Nepal: Citizenship Continuity of British Gurkha Descendants book written by senior advocate Dr. Chandrakant Gyawali organized by the British Gurkha Civil Continuity Campaign Committee in Lalitpur on Saturday.

"Gorkha soldiers fought bravely in the First and Second World Wars and provided great support to the British government. Even today, Nepalis are serving in the British Army. Today, the Gurkha Army has been established as an important link between Nepal and Britain," he said.

He said that the British Gurkha soldiers have been raising their voices about their rights including equal pension and informed that the Nepalese government's opinion that the British Gurkha soldiers should be given the same facilities as the British soldiers is shared with the British authorities.

'I am clear that the British Gurkhas should get the same services and facilities as other soldiers there, the British Gurkha soldiers are demanding the continuation of their Nepali citizenship, I believe that the political parties should discuss this matter and come to a conclusion', he said.

Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Nepal Samajwadi Party Naya Shakti Baburam Bhattarai emphasized that Nepal's citizenship system should be properly managed according to the world situation.

Chairman of the House of Representatives State Order and Good Governance Committee Ramhari Khatiwada said that in Nepal, not only in the name of the father, but also in the name of the parents, the child can get citizenship. Gyawali, the author of the

book, said that the descendants of Nepal should not be deprived of their citizenship on the basis that they were enrolled as British Gorkhas and were honorary citizens of that country.
