The Election Commission has consulted with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today regarding the election of two vacant seats in the House of Representatives and the Provincial Assembly, and 18 seats in the National Assembly that will be vacant on February 20th.
The Commissioners along with Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari met with Prime Minister Oli at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singhdarbar and discussed the matter of holding the by-elections of the House of Representatives and the Provincial Assembly in the second week of October and fixing the election for the 18 vacant seats in the National Assembly on February 20.
The Commission has prepared to set the date within the 16th of June in consultation with the Government of Nepal to hold elections for the vacant members of Rupandehi Region No. 3 of the House of Representatives and Manang Region No. 1 (2) of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly in the second week of October. Similarly, the commission informed that there are 13 vacancies of ward presidents at the local level.
Prime Minister Oli assured the support of Nepal government for the necessary facilitation as per the preparations made by the commission for the elections. He also suggested to the commission to prepare for the upcoming periodic elections. Commissioner Janakikumari Tuladhar and Sagunshamsher Jabara, high officials of the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers also participated in the meeting.
