Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has instructed the Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar to take legal action against those who vandalized and carried out violent activities in Tribhuvan University.
Prime Minister Oli, who is also the chancellor of the university, in a discussion with the officials of the university on Monday informed the home minister that whoever was involved in the vandalism should not get immunity.
The officials elected to Swaviyu from the Navy Association vandalized the office of the Vice-Chancellor on 14th May. The police arrested 2 people involved in the incident, but they have been released. The police did not file a case against Madanraj Upadhyay and Bhuvan Ojha, the main accused involved in the incident.
Even though Trivi filed a complaint to prosecute those involved in the vandalism, the police have been criticized for protecting the accused who were protected by the home administration. In Monday's discussion, Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Khadg KC expressed his concern that even though they had lodged a complaint with the police for action against those involved in the vandalism, those arrested were released. KC asked Chancellor Oli to strengthen the security system in the university. They have presented a written document to create a peaceful environment.
He also said that due to insecurity, the university officials are currently operating the service from outside Kirtipur.
