Three laborers were injured and died when the belay bridge under construction fell in the Hewa river of Panchthar on the Mechi highway. According to the police, 22-year-old Rooplal Chaudhary, 27-year-old Rajan Chaudhary and 22-year-old Prakash Chaudhary of Simra sub-metropolitan city of Bara were injured when the belay bridge fell on Saturday.
After the accident, the injured were sent to Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar for treatment. The doctor of the same hospital declared them dead, informed Kaushal Kumar Budhathoki, Chief (DSP) of District Police Office Panchthar.
Although it was said that one person died after the bridge fell, doctors and the police did not confirm the incident. On Saturday at 6 o'clock in the evening, the under construction Beilibridge fell. The belay bridge collapsed shortly after the foundation was laid in Hilihang Rural Municipality-7 on the opposite side from the base placed towards Fidim municipality-4. Six people were injured when the Belybridge fell.
2 of the injured are in serious condition and 2 are normal. All of them have been taken to Nobel Medical College Biratnagar for treatment. 25-year-old Bhuleshwar Chaudhary, 35-year-old Prakash Chaudhary and 30-year-old Abhishek Chaudhary of Simra sub-metropolitan city-12 of Bara were injured in the incident.
After the concrete bridge of the Hewa river in the Panchthar section under the Mechi highway was swept away by the flood on 2nd June 2080, the belay bridge was built here for the first time. After the belibridge was swept away again by the flood that occurred on October 12, 2081, the federal government is working with a construction business company called Dobhan Super Saugat Light Builders JV to build the belibridge for the second time through Road Division Ilam.
After the bridge collapsed, traffic is being diverted here through hume pipe. However, there is a risk of the diversion being covered and overflowing due to heavy rains. With the fall of the Beilibridge, the risk of disconnection from Panchthar headquarter Fidim to Taplejung along with Panchthar's Hilihang, Yangwarak and Phalelung roads has increased.
The experts have been calling the 70-meter long belay bridge (modular bridge). The technicians claimed that it would be the longest belay bridge in Nepal after its installation. 3 crore 49 lakh 336 rupees have been spent for Belibridge.
