Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar has said that the government has started the process to distribute citizenship from the local administration office.
He said this while speaking at the State Order and Good Governance Committee meeting under the House of Representatives. Until now, there is a system of giving Nagakirat only from the district administration office. In the meeting of the committee on Thursday, the Bill, 2081, made to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063, was discussed with the amendment questioners.
While answering the questions raised during that time, the Home Minister said that the government is trying to distribute citizenship from the local administration office so that the citizenship can be obtained from the local administration office as well, considering the situation which will become more complicated as the district headquarters is far away and it will be difficult and expensive to travel.
For that, he said that the problem is that the branch authority is not the office head of all the local administration offices. The Home Minister said that the token system has been started by placing machines in most of the 77 district administration offices so that there is no problem and ease in distributing citizenship from the district administration office. In some district administrations where
machines are not available, the written names of those who reach first are recorded, but the practice of giving token system has started and it has brought some ease.
