National Day for Eradication of Caste Discrimination and Untouchability is being celebrated today. On 21st May 2063, the Legislature Parliament declared an 'Untouchable Nation' with a pledge to end the caste discrimination and untouchability that has been practiced against the Dalit community for thousands of years in Nepal.

In commemoration of that day, since then, every year on June 21, the National Day for Eradication of Caste Discrimination and Untouchability has been celebrated in Nepal. On the occasion of

day, various programs are being held across the country under the leadership of the National Dalit Commission and social organizations, sister organizations of political parties and Dalit rights activists. On the occasion of the day, the National Dalit Commission is holding a special program in Kathmandu under the chief hospitality of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Narayan Dahal.

Dalit Coordination and Facilitation Department of Nepali Congress has also organized an interaction program at the central office in Sanepa. Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba will address the program. Similarly, Nepal Dalit Mukti Morcha, which is close to CPN-Maoist, is also celebrating the day by organizing a special program.

Although the government announced the end of caste discrimination and untouchability, the Dalit community is still suffering discrimination and exclusion in the society.
