The Gandaki state government has immediately backed down from the decision to implement the ride sharing regulations. A joint meeting between the Chief Minister, Ministers and the Negotiation Committee held on Tuesday decided not to implement the Ride Sharing (Regulation and Management) Regulations, 2082 for one month.
Spokesman of the provincial government and economic affairs minister Takaraj Gurung said that a meeting will be held with the transport businessmen to resolve the issue and it will be re-implemented within a month.
The Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers sent a letter to the Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers Office Gandaki on Tuesday afternoon to postpone the implementation of the provisions mentioned in the regulation, saying that the public transport ban has affected people's lives. After that, Chief Minister Surendraraj Pandey called the minister, negotiation team coordinator and members for discussion.
Public transport businessmen have been agitating since May 16 against the Ride Sharing (Regulation and Management) Rules, 2082 published in the gazette on May 1 by the Gandaki state government. Public transport has been closed in Gandaki since June 16, saying that a regulation has been introduced to hire vehicles with red number plates against their purpose, and that their investment has been neglected. Since Monday, the businessmen have stopped the operation of public transport across the country.
A working group consisting of the union government and businessmen in favor of the syndicate had discussed till midnight on Monday and agreed to write a letter to the Gandaki government to suspend the ride-sharing regulations.
