CPN-UML Member of Parliament Surya Thapa has proposed to put the picture of the nation-builder Prithvi Narayan Shah on Nepali currency notes.
On Monday, the Finance Committee meeting discussed the amendment bill of the Bank and Financial Institutions Act. Thapa made such a proposal in the discussion with Governor Vishwanath Paudel.
He argued that even though he is not a royalist, it would be appropriate to have a picture of the unifying personality of Nepal in the notes.
He said that if Prithvi Narayan Shah's picture is kept in the note, it will increase his respect. 'I am not a monarchist, I am a republican . He fought to bring the republic. But the photo of Prithvinarayan Shah should be kept in the note,' he said, 'If the photo of Prithvinarayan Shah, the unifier of Nepal, is kept, the note will also be respected.'
UML Sasand Thapa said that Buddha's photo should also be included in the note and this will increase the importance of the note.
