The government has prohibited holding protest programs in other areas except three areas of Kathmandu.

The District Administration Office Kathmandu has declared a prohibited area for demonstration only in Sifalchaur area, Koteshwar Akashe Bridge to Dakshina Balkumari area and Balkhu area. It is mentioned in the order issued by the Chief District Officer Rishiram Tiwari that it is prohibited to hold fast, dharna, cordon, procession, demonstration and protest program outside these designated areas. The

administration has declared a restricted area for two months except for three places in view of public complaints that there were difficulties in the operation of essential services, public service delivery and public transport when people gathered and organized protest programs such as hunger strike, sit-in, siege, procession, demonstration and other public places inside the ring road of Kathmandu district.

This decision of the administration has also curtailed the right of citizens to peacefully assemble in public places and protest. While the government has already declared various places including the offices and residences of very special people as prohibited areas, the latest has designated the area around Narayanhiti Museum as a prohibited area. Recently, various monarchist parties and groups including RPRPA, RPRPA Nepal announced an indefinite protest demanding the restoration of the monarchy, and the administration has been shrinking the demonstration area.

Royalist parties and groups have been protesting since May 15. On Sunday too, they demonstrated in Naxal-Narayanchaur area . During that time, the police arrested RPP Nepal President Kamal Thapa for trying to break the prohibited area. RPP MP Deepak Bahadur Singh, who went to meet Thapa, was detained by the team of District Police Complex Kathmandu from the office complex at Bhadrakali.

Prazia Tiwari of Kathmandu has said that unless the prohibited area is designated, the program coordinated by the administration will be coordinated accordingly.
