After the onset of monsoon in Nepal, the risk of rain and flood has started. On this Thursday night, the monsoon entered from the eastern region of Nepal and spread to Koshi region. Less than 24 hours later, floods have caused damage in various areas of eastern Nepal.

According to the spokesperson of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Ram Bahadur KC, due to incessant rain this morning, 100 meters of road in Sagurigadhi rural municipality-6 of Dharan-Dhankuta road section has been washed away by the flood. 

due to which the Dharan-Dhankuta road section of the Koshi highway was blocked, the authority said. Which has stopped the traffic of Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Taplejud, Panchthar passing through Dhankuta. KC also said that 22 houses were inundated by the flood of Mai Khola in Jhapa today. According to him, the water is now receding and there is no human risk. The locals have been moved to a safe place. 

Nepal Police Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Thapa said that there was a flood and landslide incident in the Jhapa and Dharan Dhankuta road areas of Eastern Nepal and the disaster management is being done by mobilizing police teams for rescue and safety of citizens in that area.

Monsoon entered Nepal from Thursday night, 15 days before the onset of monsoon. According to the Department of Water and Meteorology, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is currently occurring in many places of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and one or two places in Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

In the last 12 hours, the department has also informed that very heavy to very heavy rains have occurred in some places of Koshi province. The irrigation system is now moving towards the north and there is a possibility of more rain, so the department has informed through a bulletin to take necessary precautions.

In the last 12 hours, heavy rains have been measured in Jhapa, Ilam, Morang and Sunsari districts of Koshi province, and the floods in the Kankai River, Biring River, Keslia River, etc. flowing through these areas have exceeded the alert level, so the Flood Forecasting Division has also requested everyone to be on high alert in the river coastal areas. 

The department has also requested to be on high alert till afternoon as heavy rains have been measured in many places of Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari and Dhankuta and more rains may occur in Mechi, Viring, Ninda, Kankai, Chisangkhola, Mawa-Ratuwa, Lohandra, Bakraha, Nunkhola and other small rivers.

The meteorological department has also informed that the rain-making clouds are moving from eastern Nepal to the north. For the next three days, the water level of Koshi, Narayani, Karnali, Mahakali and its major tributaries as well as Kamala, Bagmati, East Rapti, West Rapti and Babai rivers are expected to remain below the alert level, but it is expected to rise. Therefore, it has been requested to exercise vigilance in the activities of the river coastal area.
