Today is the day of the first ascent of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, i.e. the 72nd International Mount Everest Day. This day is being celebrated grandly by organizing various programs in Nepal as well. On May 29, 1953, Nepalese Tenjik Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand stepped on the summit of Mount Everest for the first time, introducing the history of human courage and ability to the world.

Commemorating the same day, International Everest Day has been celebrated every year on May 29. This year too, the government has organized various programs to celebrate Everest Day in a grand manner. To celebrate the day, the International Everest Day Main Celebration Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Minister of Tourism.

Tourism Minister Pandey said that coordination and cooperation has been done with all the concerned bodies to complete the International Everest Day in a grand manner. He informed that since there is Republic Day on 15th May and the Budget Statement in the Parliament, the program has been arranged without clashing with the appropriate program. Prabhatferi will be held in the morning and after the completion of the Republic Day and budget statement program in the afternoon, the 'Sagarmatha Summits Summit' will be organized. On the occasion of

day, Prabhatpheri with various tableaus will be started this morning from Employees' Savings Bank Thamel and will turn into a formal program at Basantpur. In the afternoon, the 'Sagarmata Summits Summit' program will be organized.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will be the chief guest of the event, sharing experiences of record climbers, as well as promoting adventure tourism and mitigating the impact of climate change on the mountains will be debated. On the occasion of the day, there is a program to honor various record climbers.

The Ministry of Tourism has been celebrating Everest Day every year in collaboration with Nepal Tourism Board, Department of Tourism, Nepal Mountaineering Association and other private sector tourism professionals and stakeholders.

President of Nepal Mountaineering Association, Angchiring Sherpa, commemorating the first Everest climber, said that every year the International Everest Day is being celebrated in Nepal with various programs. He informed that Hillary's family and climbers from different countries will come to Nepal to celebrate International Everest Day.

'Lukla Airport has been named Tenzing Hillary Airport. Since Everest is the heritage and wealth of the world, there is a need to be serious to protect it from the risk of climate change,' he said.

According to a statistic, there are 1,792 mountains above 5,800 meters in Nepal. There are eight mountains above eight thousand meters in Nepal. Of these only 461 are open for climbing.

This year also, record climbers and mountain tourism professionals will be honored on the occasion of the day, according to the Department of Tourism. It is believed that the organization of the day will encourage future generations to follow their dreams of mountain climbing and respect and protect future landscapes.
