The number of Nepali workers who have obtained work permits to go to foreign employment has exceeded 64 lakhs. According to the economic survey of the year 2081/82 presented by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel today in the Federal Parliament, the number of new labor permits for foreign employment up to the month of February 2081 has reached 64 lakh 61 thousand 19.

6.7 percent of women and 93.3 percent of men received new work permits.

Until February of the current year, 111 countries have been institutionally opened for foreign employment. 1,670 manpower companies have been granted licenses to send workers. By February of the current year, the number of new labor permits with renewals has reached 534,471. Among them, 11.3 percent are women and 88.7 percent are men. According to the

survey, about 2.8 million workers have been registered in the social security fund in the formal sector, foreign employment, informal sector and self-employment sector. The number of beneficiaries receiving social security allowance has reached 37 lakh 6 thousand 389. Last year such number was 38 lakh 29 thousand 473. Similarly, under the Prime Minister's Employment Program, 797,725 unemployed persons have been registered at 743 local levels till February 2081/82.

In the year 2080/81, 885 thousand 153 unemployed persons were registered in 735 local levels, 64 thousand 733 people received an average of 79 days of employment.

Until February 2081/82, seven thousand 509 Nepali workers have gone to South Korea through the EPS system. Such a number was 10 thousand 855 in the year 2080/81. Among the Nepali workers who have received new work permits for foreign employment till February of the current year, most of them are getting work permits to go to the UAE. Even in the last financial year, UAE was the first choice country for Nepali workers.

Till February of the current financial year, 974 Nepali workers including 922 men and 52 women have died in foreign employment. During this period, the family members and close beneficiaries of the deceased have received Rs. 65 crore 67 lakh 60 thousand as compensation. Until February of the current year, 336 workers, including 317 men and 19 women, who were physically disabled and sick during foreign employment, have received Rs. 147.4 million 88 thousand as financial assistance.

Similarly, up to February 2081/82, 586 non-Nepalese citizens have been granted work permits, while 1,811 non-Nepalese citizens have had their work permits renewed. During the same period of the last financial year, 589 non-Nepalese work permits were renewed and 850 non-Nepalese work permits were renewed.

The Safe Migration (SAMI) program in partnership with three levels of government is operating in 267 local levels in 68 districts in the fourth phase (2024-2028). Four lakh 54 thousand 231 people have received foreign employment related services from this program till February of the current year. According to the occupational classification, the salary index has increased the most in the skilled agriculture, forestry and fishery workers group by 5.3 percent.
