The government has airlifted free of charge 808 pregnant and delivery women who are at risk from remote and hilly areas of various provinces till February of the current financial year. This data is from 075/76 when the program was implemented. Until February of the current year alone, 95 pregnant women and women in labor have been rescued.
In the last seven years, 265 people have been rescued the most from Karnali province and 40 from Lumbini the least. According to the maternal health study conducted by the National Statistics Office during the 078 census, the maternal mortality rate is high in Lumbini and Karnali provinces. In Lumbini, there are 27 maternal deaths per million live births and 172 in Karnali. Which is more than the national average maternal mortality rate . In Nepal, there are 151 maternal deaths per million live births.
According to the Sustainable Development Goals, Nepal has set a goal of reducing the maternal mortality rate to 70 per million live births by the year 2030.
