Former Congress MP Aftab Alam was acquitted by the High Court

The High Court Janakpur, Temporary Bench Birganj has ordered the release of Mohammad Aftab Alam, the accused in the Rautahat bombing, overturning the order of the District Court Rautahat. The bench of Justices Khushi Prasad Tharu and Arjun Maharjan on Wednesday overturned the district court's decision and gave an acquittal.

Against the order of District Court Rautahat, he reached the Birgunj bench of High Court Janakpur. The bench also upheld the order of the district court to keep him in custody for trial. 

Congress leader involved in the incident in Rautahat's Rajpur  Four people including Alam were sentenced to life imprisonment by District Court Rautahat in 2081 Baisakh. Congress leader Alam, his brother Mohammad Mahtab Alam, Sheikh Saraj and Badri Sahni were among those sentenced to life imprisonment.

On the eve of the first Constituent Assembly election, a case was registered on November 18, 2076, against leader Alam, his brother Mohammad Mahtab Alam and Sheikh Saraj, and 11 people were charged with the incident of bomb blast in the Fardawa village of present-day Rajpur municipality on the night of March 27, 2064 and then burning 23 people alive in a brick kiln to destroy the evidence. In the same case, Congress leader Alam was arrested on October 26.

These are the grounds for acquitting Alam by the High Court. Not being confirmed for the accusation of burning
