Former Congress MP Aftab Alam has been acquitted by the High Court Janakpur, temporary bench Birganj. Alam, who is in Nakhkhu Jail in Lalitpur, was released on Wednesday evening.

On Wednesday, Janakpur High Court, Temporary Bench Birgunj ordered the release of Mohammad Alam, the accused in Rautahat bombing, reversing the Rautahat district court's order. The bench of Justices Khushi Prasad Tharu and Arjun Maharjan on Wednesday overturned the district court's decision and gave an acquittal.

Against the order of District Court Rautahat, he reached the Birgunj bench of High Court Janakpur. The bench also upheld the district court's order to keep him in custody for trial. 

Congress leader involved in the incident in Rautahat's Rajpur  Four people including Alam were sentenced to life imprisonment by District Court Rautahat in 2081 Baisakh. Congress leader Alam, his brother Mohammad Mahtab Alam, Sheikh Saraj and Badri Sahni were sentenced to life imprisonment.
