The Supreme Court has refused to issue an application for habeas corpus filed by Ravi Lamichhane, chairman of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RASWPA) and former deputy prime minister and home minister.

In the order issued by the joint bench of Judges Nahkul Subedi and Balkrishna Dhakal on Friday, the decision made by the Butwal bench of the High Court Tulsipur to send Lamichhane to pre-trial detention has been ordered not to be reversed as it is in accordance with the law. 

Supreme Court spokesperson Achyut Kunikel informed that the joint bench of Justice Subedi and Dhakal ordered that Lamichhane should not be released from prison on Friday 7th of Baisakh while hearing the writ of imprisonment filed by his wife Nikita Paudel on behalf of Lamichhane.

Lamichhane Rupandehi is in jail due to the order given by the Butwal bench of the High Court in the fraud case related to Supreme Cooperative of Butwal. In that case, on January 13, the Ruppandehi District Court ordered Lamichhane to be released on a bond of 1 crore. Rupandehi public prosecutor's office registered a writ against the said order. While hearing the same case, the Butwal bench of Tulsipur High ordered to send him to prison for pre-trial detention in the case of Supreme Cooperative Fraud and Organized Crime.
