The MP has emphasized on preparedness to reduce the risk of disaster before the monsoon. In today's meeting of the National Assembly, Federalization Strengthening and National Concerns Committee, they emphasized on minimizing the possible damage that could be caused by monsoon disaster.
A meeting was held regarding the activities related to disaster management (disaster risk reduction, disaster response and disaster recovery), preparation for disaster risk reduction and future action plan. Chairman of the
committee, Sonam Gelzen Sherpa, suggested that government policies and plans related to disaster management should be implemented effectively. He said that coordination should be increased to manage disasters, management of safety materials, timely relief management, quick and easy relief and rescue should be activated at the local level and sending money to the local relief fund would be effective and fast.
Member of Parliament Jag Prasad Sharma suggested that disaster risk should be reduced by making good use of information technology. He emphasized that the people of the slums that are at risk of disasters should be managed elsewhere.
Likewise, MP Indira Devi Gautam stressed on the effective implementation of the disaster preparedness and response plan. MP Uday Bahadur Bohora suggested that preparations should be started to provide rescue and relief in time.
Dinesh Prasad Bhatt, executive head of the National Risk Reduction and Management Authority, said that there will be more than average rainfall this year and stressed that there is a need to work for disaster response and preparedness and to increase coordination between the three levels of government. There is a 55 to 65 percent chance of more rain than Sardar in the eastern part of Karnali province, northern part of Lumbini province and most of the land of Gandaki province,' he said, 'There is a 45 to 55 percent chance of more rain than Sardar in the southern part of Sudurpaschim province, western part of Lumbini province, north-eastern part of Gandaki province, Bagmati and Koshi province. Therefore, we will emphasize the preparation program to be cautious in this year's monsoon.'
Executive Director Bhatt said that in the upcoming monsoon, efforts will be made to prepare better than last year and reduce risk.
MPs Vishnukumari Sapkota, Rajendra Lakshmi Gayre, Kiran Bahadur Shrestha, Narayanadatta Mishra, Gopi Bahadur Sarki Achami also emphasized on timely preparations for disaster risk reduction, emphasis on post-disaster rescue relief, settlement relocation.
